Jo Sykes is a Partner at Trinity in London and co-heads the firm’s DFI practice. Jo trained and qualified as a solicitor at Clifford Chance LLP, gaining experience in the financing and operational aspects of projects in the energy and infrastructure sector prior to joining Trinity.

Jo advises financial institutions (including DFIs, commercial banks and ECAs), as well as developers and investors, on a wide range of projects, with a particular focus on renewable energy transactions in sub-Saharan Africa. Her notable experience includes advising ATIDI in relation to the implementation of their Regional Liquidity Support Facility, the developers of the Tulu-Moye geothermal project in Ethiopia, the lenders on the Lake Turkana Wind IPP in Kenya, the sponsors on the Azura-Edo gas IPP in Nigeria and the sponsors on the Amandi thermal IPP in Ghana.

In addition, Jo has advised DFI clients on loans to financial institutions, senior and subordinated project finance loans and quasi-equity investments across the African continent, and also assisted Etana Energy in respect of the negotiation of the USD100m guarantee provided by BII and GuarantCo to support Etana’s payment obligations under certain renewable energy generation contracts in South Africa.

Jo has been named as a “Next Generation Partner” by Legal 500 in both 2024 and 2025 for her work in Emerging Markets and is also rated as a “notable practitioner” by IFLR1000 for her project development and project finance work.

Jo graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA in Jurisprudence in 2008 and qualified as a solicitor of England & Wales in 2012.
