Eric Roman Filipink - Trinity International LLP

Eric holds the position of Counsel at Trinity International (US) PLLC in Washington DC. Eric focuses his practice on project finance in the energy and renewable energy sector and impact investing transactions. Before joining Trinity US in late 2018, Eric spent two years at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the US government’s development finance institution (DFI). At OPIC, Eric worked on a range of project finance transactions across sub-Saharan Africa as part of the Power Africa Program. Some examples of his work under Power Africa include advising OPIC on a wind farm in Senegal, solar projects in Burundi and Malawi, off-grid solar in Chad and helping to coordinate DFI negotiations on Nigeria’s solar project pipeline. Eric began his legal career in New York at Baker McKenzie before moving to Haynes and Boone LLP. At both firms he worked on cross-border lending transactions, trade finance and project finance in the United States and Latin America. While at Baker McKenzie, Eric gained important in-house lending experience during a secondment posting at Standard Chartered Bank, where he helped expand the bank’s lending portfolio in Brazil and led a team in setting up a specialised global banking services platform across 19 emerging market countries. Prior to entering private law practice, Eric spent 14 years in international development, working as a trusted advisor to ministers and other high-ranking government officials in Southeastern Europe and Central Asia. During this time, Eric served as the head of a highly-regarded land reform and land market development project in Central Asia funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). He also served as a Political Officer for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Albania, where he assisted in modernising state institutions and oversaw major reform programs from anti-corruption initiatives to land and property reform. Having worked very closely with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in connection with these projects, Eric has a good understanding of international financial institutions and the complexities of working with host governments.

Eric received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center and was admitted to the State Bar of New York in 2011.
