Iberafrica – Kenyan Power Plant Acquisition

Published: 19/05/20

Trinity International LLP is pleased to announce that it advised A.P. Moller Capital on its first investment in Kenya, the acquisition of the 52.5MW Nairobi based thermal power plant Iberafrica from Naturgy. Located in Nairobi’s industrial area, Iberafrica has provided base load and reliable power to the grid since the start of its operations in 1997 by selling the electricity it produces to the national utility, Kenya Power and Lighting Company Plc, under a long term power purchase agreement. The transaction adds to Trinity’s significant M&A track-record, particularly in energy and infrastructure in Africa. The Trinity team for the acquisition itself comprised senior partner Paul Biggs, partner Conrad Marais and senior associate Adekanmi Lawson. Partner Simon Norris and senior associate Jo Sykes continue to act for A.P. Moller Capital on aspects related to the acquisition that have followed completion.
