Corporate Update

Published: 14/05/18

In line with the increase in investment and M&A activity in Africa in the last 6-12 months, particular in the power sector, our corporate team has been busy on a number of transactions.  Paul Biggs and Conrad Marais have been advising AquaVenture Holdings Limited (NYSE: WAAS) in relation to its acquisition of a majority interest in the BEFESA desalination plant in Accra, Ghana.  The facility has been operational since 2015 and, through its customer, supplies water to approximately 500,000 residents of Accra.  Paul and Conrad have also been advising a leading UK investment group in relation to a £30 million investment into a pan-African technology businessHugh Naylor acted for Ori Meat Products on a growth capital investment by AgDevCo in its meat processing business in Malawi and Tanzania.  He also recently acted on the sale of an interest in a significant power asset in West Africa.

We are excited about Kanmi Lawson joining the corporate team as a Senior Associate.

In addition to the support that it gives to the projects and finance team, our dedicated corporate and private equity team focuses on M&A, strategic alliances, joint ventures, general commercial transactions and private equity.  There are few law firms in the market that can claim our depth of experience in corporate and private equity transactions across sub-Saharan Africa, with the team having advised on a significant number of these transactions across a wide variety of sectors, deal sizes and transactions.
