David Nanson is a Senior Legal Consultant to Trinity International LLP.

David has practised law for over 23 years, most recently as a partner in the Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance Department at Denton Wilde Sapte (now SNR Denton). During that time he focused primarily on project finance where he advised sponsors, banks, borrowers, export credit agencies and financial institutions on a number of high-profile project finance transactions. During his earlier career and during the time he was Resident Partner at DWS’s Istanbul office (May 2004 to November 2006), David had a wider banking and corporate/commercial practice. On the banking side, he has a broad range of experience in most banking products and has advised on asset finance, acquisition finance, leveraged finance, standard syndications, unsecured lending and trade finance. He also has experience of privatisations, joint ventures, corporate acquisitions and venture capital transactions, including corporate structures, shareholders agreements and commercial contracts.

Over the years David has worked on transactions throughout the world ranging from power projects in Jamaica, India, Pakistan and the Philippines, petrochemical plants in Turkey and Bangladesh, process plants in Thailand and Turkey, mining projects in Uzbekistan, Turkey and Malaysia, as well as hospitals, power stations, roads and water treatment plants in the UK. Many of the non-UK deals were export credit financed transactions and, in this regard, David has worked with or for ECGD, Coface, JEXIM/JBIC, USEXIM, EDC and SACE on several occasions.

David qualified as a lawyer in Canada in 1985 and practised at the firm of Russell & DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau) before moving to London in 1991. In the UK, he first practised at Nabarro Nathanson then joined Commonwealth Development Corporation where he led the legal team responsible for CDC’s investments in South Asia and South East Asia. David moved to DWS (then Wilde Sapte) in 1996. David has a BA and MA from the University of British Columbia and a LLB/JD from the University of Victoria.
